Dr. Joe Hardy’s life is a testament to his belief in servant leadership: where we all become community stewards.  Joe traveled extensively for his education, service in the United States Air Force, and missionary work.  But home is where the heart is and Dr. Hardy returned to Nevada where he raised his family, served his community and continues to serve his neighbors as the Nevada State Senator from District 12


Joe Hardy, M.D. was born in Reno, Nevada and is a graduate of Sparks High School. He graduated University of Nevada at Reno and attended BYU in Provo, Utah. He went on to graduate from medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Joe finished a family practice residency in Phoenix, followed by military service in South Dakota, separating as a Major in the United States Air Force.


Happily returning to Nevada, he joined a private family medical practice in Boulder City where he worked for 22 years. Joe affiliated with HealthCare Partners for eight years before joining Touro University of Nevada, College of Osteopathic Medicine as an Associate Professor. He has been board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine for 35 plus years and is a former board member of the Clark County Health District and Southern Nevada Health District.


Joe is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Nevada Academy of Family Physicians, Clark County Medical Society and the Nevada State Medical Association. He was named Nevada Family Physician of the Year in both 1999 and 2010.


Dr. Hardy has been active in community organizations including Easter Seals of Nevada, the Boy Scouts of America, the American Legion, St. Rose deLima Hospital and other organizations.


Dr. Hardy’s political service began in 1999 when he served as City Councilman and then Mayor Pro Tempore for Boulder City. In 2002, Joe was elected to the Nevada Assembly, where he served 4 terms until 2010, when he was elected to the Nevada State Senate where he served as Minority Whip (2013-2014) and President Pro Tempore (2015).  Dr. Hardy continues to faithfully represent District 12 as a 

Nevada State Senator.


Dr. Joe Hardy has been married for 46 years to Jill.  They are the proud parents of 8 children and 20 grandchildren.


Dr. Joe Hardy has a lifetime of committed Service: from his role as Sunday School Teacher to Nevada State Senator, his dedication to his neighbor has been consistent throughout his life.
